Greco, Grue Go Blue

Winners of the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs: Joe Grue and Eric Greco.

Joe Grue and Eric Greco, runners-up in the Kaplan Blue Ribbon Pairs last year, had two solid final sessions on Thursday to win the event by less than half a board.
Second place went to Sylvia Shi and Matt Granovetter.
Going into the final day of the event, the winners were in eighth place, more than a board behind the leaders – Haig Tchamitch and Geoff Hampson (39 top).
In the first final session, Greco and Grue posted a 60% game to move up to fourth place, then scored 58.32% to finish with a matchpoint total of 1178.99. Granovetter and Shi were 16.54 matchpoints behind at 1162.45.
The runners-up started the final day of the event in 67th place but moved up to 30th after the first final session and continued to climb as the day wore on.
Grue has had a good run in the event since winning it in 2015 playing with John Hurd. Grue and Greco were second last year.
Grue acknowledged the support he and Greco received from Jeff Meckstroth, who watched them play all day: “Jeff said he wanted to watch the winners.”
