Schwartzes eke out win in Senior Mixed Pairs
Annie Schwartz and Alan Schwartz of Fairfax VA won the Senior Mixed Pairs on Friday, narrowly edging out Jo Morse of Boise ID and Howard Parker of Clements CA, who were reported as the winners when preliminary results were released. The margin of victory was 0.29 matchpoints.
The Schwartzes scored 56.91% and 61.10% on Thursday to qualify in second place with a carryover of almost two and a half boards. They scored 56.38% and 61.49% on Friday.
Earlier this year the Schwartzes finished second in the North American Pairs Flight A.
It’s the first NABC win for Annie; Alan previously won the Lebhar IMP Pairs in 2002.
Parker and Morse matched up the night before the event, when Parker learned the partner he planned to play with would not be able to come. Morse, whose last NABC win was in 2003, has mostly retired from playing and was not planning to enter, intending to kibitz the Reisinger instead, until Parker needed a partner.
