James Zhan and Ying Peng, both of Sugar Land TX in District 16, won the Golder North American Pairs, Flight B. They qualified in 11th place for Sunday’s two-session final. They had two very strong final sessions –a score of 63.91% which moved them into first place, and then a 65.24% which guaranteed their victory. Their combined score was 609.93, almost four boards ahead of second place. This was their first North American Pairs contest.
In second place were District 1 representatives Jean La Traverse of Montreal, QC and Stephane Turcotte of Saint-Laurent QC. They qualified in second place for the final, and though they dropped a spot after the first final session with a 55.13% game, their last session score of 54.06 was good enough to get them back to the number two spot. The pair was also second in the 0–2500 Swiss Teams.
