A team from Anchorage flew south and found a welcoming climate as they claimed a win in the 0–10,000 Swiss Teams. Ed Rais, Marion Kelly, Doug Scott and Tom Ottley scored 126 Victory Points to best the second-place Marty Harris team.
“We just played bridge,” is how Scott described the winning strategy. “It’s like I used to tell my partner in team games: ‘Just don’t do anything stupid.’”
This is the first NABC win for each of the team members.
The Harris team, sitting in second place after the qualifying sessions, was 10.60 VPs off the winning pace. Harris played with Greg Michaels from Cleveland OH, and Miriam Harris-Botzum and John Botzum from Orefield PA.
Californians Jessica Lai, Grant Vance, Jody Williams and Richard Williams finished third.
