New Yorkers Radu Nistor and Iulian Rotaru won the Nail Life Master Open Pairs by two boards. Their four-session total with carryover was 2270.40 matchpoints (64 top).
This is the second open NABC title for Nistor and Rotaru: They won the Lebhar IMP Pairs in 2014. Additionally, they were members of the winning squad in the 0–10,000 Swiss Teams in 2016. Playing with a different partner, Nistor won the Mini-Blue Ribbon Pairs in 2016.
In second with 2142.63 were Alex Perlin and Igor Savchenko of New Jersey, while third place went to Cenk Tuncok of Amesbury MA and of Turkey with a score of 2112.66.
The winners stood ninth after Friday’s qualifying round and moved to second after the first final session on Saturday in which they scored 62.53%. Their second final score of 66.16% iced the win for them.
Nistor and Rotaru are full-time players. They are originally from Romania, but have lived in the U.S. for the past several years.
