ACBL Bridge Beat #31: Daily Bulletins

One of the innovations of the 1954 Winter NABC was the introduction of the Daily Bulletin. It was a simple document. The first Daily Bulletins listed the names of every player in first or second place in every section from the previous day, the overall winners of any event that ended the previous day, the current day’s schedule of play and entertainment, important announcements and a touch of gossip.

All the news that was fit to print was carefully typed on a typewriter, mimeographed, hand collated, stapled and available at the registration desk in the morning (1:30 p.m.). The press room staff worked into the early morning hours each day to ensure the timely delivery of the news.

The earliest Daily Bulletin in the ACBL archive is from the 1958 Summer NABC in Miami. Click here to view (large PDF file, will take a few seconds to load).
