Fox wins 10K KO

Winners of the NABC 0–10,000 Knockout Teams: captain James Fox, Judy Fox, Rodrigo Garcia Da Rosa and Maximo Crusizio

The team of James Fox and Judy Fox of Virginia Beach VA and Maximo Crusizio and Rodrigo Garcia Da Rosa of Fort Lauderdale FL won the NABC 0–10,000 Knockout on Wednesday. It was the first limited national win for the Foxes and the second for the other pair, who won the 10K Swiss Teams in Spring 2019.

With a score of 147 to 112, they defeated the team captained by Jane McLaughlin of San Francisco. McLaughlin played with Ethan Wood, Stefan Thorpe, Sibrand Van Oosten and Barbara Shukov.

The Fox team won every set but the last, leading by as much as 40 IMPs after three quarters.

The Foxes began their path to this win when they decided to attend the 2012 World Bridge Series in Lille, France, because some friends were playing in the Senior teams. They met Carlos Pellegrini and played with him in the mixed teams. Later, when they were looking for teammates for ACBL events, Pellegrini suggested Garcia Da Rosa and Crusizio, who had represented Argentina when they were Juniors, to them.

Their celebration was low-key due to exhaustion. “It’s tiring,” said James Fox.

“Everyone we played against was very pleasant,” said Judy Fox. “It’s nice not to have conflict.”

McLaughlin, of the losing team, agreed with that assessment.

“It’s a wonderful event, good competition,” she said. “Everyone was gracious. We all had fun.”
