Paul Holmes of Wadsworth, OH and Eric Gettleman of Ellicott City, MD have won the 0–10K Pairs. They qualified in 16th place for today’s two-session final; their first final session score of 67.57% propelled them into first place where they hung on with a 51.54% game. Their combined score was 796.05.
The pair previously won the Young 0–2500 Pairs in 2018 and, during the pandemic, won the online NABC 0–5000 Knockout Teams in July 2021. They’ve had several other top-five finishes in limited national events. Next up is tomorrow’s Spingold, the premier event of the Summer NABC, and they have a great team: Samantha Punch, Stephen Peterkin, Michael Berkowitz and Lisa Berkowitz.
“We played solid, and we got a little bit lucky,” said Gettleman. “And we’re actually going to a really nice dinner tonight, coincidentally, so this is perfect.”
In second place with a combined score of 768.01 were Keith Connolly of St. Paul, MN and Robert Rebelein of Poughkeepsie, NY. They qualified in fourth place and had two consistent, above-average final sessions.
