Boosted by a monstrous 78% game in the first session of the Summer 2023 NABC Robot Individual, Poland’s Rafal Gardzielewski topped the field of almost 2300 players in the three-session contest, played on Bridge Base Online, July 8–10.
Gardzielewski, whose username is “every,” dominated the first day of the contest with a 78.09% performance. He followed up with a 66.74% score on day two, and finished with a 64.01% game in Monday’s final session, making his three-day average 69.61%.
Gardzielewski said, “I have played bridge for 45 years, some of them at the highest Polish level (the “Extra” League). I was 10th in the Polish pairs championships this year, and fourth last year. But mostly, I play on BBO with robots.”
In second with an average of 68.65% was Robert Schachter (“punkydoodl”) of Eden Prairie MN. Third place went to Andrea Boldrini (“mattopo”) of Rome, Italy, with 68.61%.
The Flight B winner was Sarik Goyal of Chicago with a three-day average of 66.11%. Goyal (“rick853”) finished 14th overall. Goyal was a member of the winning squad in the 0–10,000 KO Teams at the 2022 Spring NABC in Reno.
Yong-Dong Wang of Memphis TN was tops in Flight C. Wang (“ydwang”) scored 64.63% over three days, good for 30th place overall. Wang has had several top-10 finishes in the Flight C category of previous Robot Individual contests.
