Stratification for open regional events is unlimited/2500/750 unless otherwise noted.

Regional top-flight, mid-flight and open pair events play 26 or 27 boards per session. Gold Rush and side pairs play 24 boards per session. Swiss and Round Robin team events typically play 24 boards per session, depending on the event or bracket size.

In gold-point events of two or more sessions, overall awards and section tops are paid in gold to any start that has a maximum of 750 or higher. Side Pairs Series pay gold only to the open strat, and it is necessary to play two or more sessions in the series to earn gold.

All regional team events use the 20-point VP scale.

I/N events are stratified as appropriate at the discretion of the director. No player may be over 300

Conditions of Contest

Like all Olympic sports, bridge has a precise set of rules for competition. The Conditions of Contest detail these protocols and regulations for every event played at the NABC. Whether you need to know the rules for General Knockout Teams or you are looking for specific information about Blue Ribbon Pairs, the Conditions of Contest will guide you.

Seminars and Meetings
Beyond the games at the NABCs, members can enjoy educational programs. Below is a listing of the seminars being offered in New Orleans. Please check the NABC Daily Bulletin for the exact location of each session.

The focus is on how, rather than what, to teach. Participants have the opportunity to demonstrate their Best Practices proficiency after the workshop to earn certification as an ACBL Best Practices Teacher.

Best Practices Teacher Certification: To earn it, workshop participants are required to pass a proficiency assessment. Assessments are conducted at the conclusion of the workshop and are scheduled in 1 hour time slots.

Safety Protocols

While we are excited to bring players back together to the bridge table, we will still approach the tournament with caution. All NABC attendees, staff and volunteers must be fully vaccinated as per the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. While booster shots are currently not required, they are highly recommended.

Mask protocol update

Effective March 1, 2022, The ACBL will require masking of players, staff and volunteers when the COVID-19 Community Level rate is indicated as “High,” and will not require masks when the Community Level rate is indicated as “Low” or “Medium.” This will be reviewed on a daily basis for the Summer NABC using the Community Level county check system. Players at the NABC will receive updates in the Daily Bulletin notifying them of that day’s status, and signage will be posted throughout tournament areas each morning.

Attendees should be prepared by bringing masks to the tournament playing areas in the event the Community Level rate changes to “High.” Masks are still recommended for attendees who are at high risk for severe illness or otherwise are a member of a vulnerable population. We also ask attendees to be courteous and wear a mask if seated at a table with a high-risk player who asks for tablemates to wear masks.

Additionally, all monetary transactions will be cashless, including tournament fees.
