Stratification for open regional events is unlimited/2500/750 unless otherwise noted.

Regional top-flight, mid-flight, and side pair events play 26 or 27 boards per session. Gold Rush pairs play 24 boards per session. Swiss and Round Robin team events typically play 24 boards per session, depending on the event or bracket size.

In gold-point events of two or more sessions, overall awards and section tops are paid in gold to any start that has a maximum of 750 or higher. Side Pairs Series pay gold only to the open strat, and it is necessary to play two or more sessions in the series to earn gold.

All regional team events use the 20-point VP scale.

I/N events are stratified as appropriate at the discretion of the director. No player may be over 300.

Conditions of Contest

Like all Olympic sports, bridge has a precise set of rules for competition. The Conditions of Contest detail these protocols and regulations for every event played at the NABC. Whether you need to know the rules for General Knockout Teams or you are looking for specific information about Blue Ribbon Pairs, the Conditions of Contest will guide you.

Partnership Desk

The local committee is proud to offer an online partnership portal available only BEFORE the NABC starts. Please go to the Partnership Desk (West building, 3rd floor) for pairing should you need a partner after arriving in Phoenix.

The online partnership requests will close at noon (MST) on Wednesday, November 23.

Safety Protocols

While we are excited to bring players back together to the bridge table, we will still approach the tournament with caution. All NABC attendees, staff and volunteers must be fully vaccinated as per the Centers for Disease Control guidelines. While booster shots are currently not required, they are highly recommended.

Mask protocol update

Effective March 1, 2022, The ACBL will require masking of players, staff and volunteers when the COVID-19 Community Level rate is indicated as “High,” and will not require masks when the Community Level rate is indicated as “Low” or “Medium.” This will be reviewed on a daily basis for the Summer NABC using the Community Level county check system. Players at the NABC will receive updates in the Daily Bulletin notifying them of that day’s status, and signage will be posted throughout tournament areas each morning.

Attendees should be prepared by bringing masks to the tournament playing areas in the event the Community Level rate changes to “High.” Masks are still recommended for attendees who are at high risk for severe illness or otherwise are a member of a vulnerable population. We also ask attendees to be courteous and wear a mask if seated at a table with a high-risk player who asks for tablemates to wear masks.

Additionally, all monetary transactions will be cashless, including tournament fees.

Vaccine Verification

For assistance, please contact VOW Digital Health’s customer service at CustomerSupport@vow.app

Please watch the video or click the button below for instructions on how to obtain clearance into NABC. We encourage attendees to complete this verification process prior to arrival at the tournament, as it will streamline your entry to the NABC tournament floor and help you avoid long lines.

Safety Protocols FAQ

What health and safety measures are in place at the Summer 2022 NABC?

We want to assure all attendees that several precautions are being put in place for your safety. You can expect the following precautions at our event:

    • We require all guests to be fully vaccinated according to the CDC guidelines to attend the event.
    • All monetary transactions will be cashless, including payment to participate in an NABC or Regional-rated game. (ACBL accepts all major credit cards.)
    • There will be an increased frequency of cleaning of community spaces, tables, chairs and other commonly occupied areas.
    • Hand sanitizer will be readily available. Signage encouraging safety precautions will be prevalent.
    • Attendees will only be able to enter the tournament playing areas after receiving COVID-19 vaccination clearance at any of the four VOW check-in desks. Attendees will receive a tournament wristband designating their clearance after presenting VOW credentials. Wristbands must be worn at all times and will be required to enter the tournament playing areas.
What do I do if the Community Level rate is “High” and I’m unable to wear a face covering due to a disability?

There will be no exceptions regarding masks should the Community Level rate change to “High” and attendees are asked to return to mask wearing. See the answer to Q1 above. You will not be allowed to enter and/or remain inside the tournament area if you are not wearing a mask according to the guidelines above.

What are my options if I cannot get vaccinated due to my age, a medical condition or a religious exemption?

There will be no exceptions to our vaccination policy. You will not be permitted entrance into the tournament playing area without VOW Digital Health’s proof of your vaccination status.

What do I need to do in order to show proof of vaccination?

Attendees are required to show their proof of vaccination through VOW Digital Health on their smartphone. All NABC attendees must access VOW (U.S. players here, and international players here) and follow the steps to verify their identity and submit their health credentials. On the first day of the tournament, attendees will automatically receive their pass on their smartphone. Passes will remain valid through the end of the tournament.

This process will provide us an easy way to verify your vaccination prior to your arrival at the NABC. It will help us avoid long lines and prevent crowding. We ask that you have this verification completed before your arrival at the event. For assistance, please contact VOW Digital Health’s customer service at CustomerSupport@vow.app.

How do I prove my vaccination if I don’t have a smartphone?

For the smoothest process, we suggest you register for clearance in VOW using this link if you’re a U.S. resident or this link for international visitors via any computer prior to the event. You will need to present a government-issued ID and a print-out of your confirmation or access pass at one of the four check-in tables located in lobbies of the Silver Legacy, Circus Circus and Eldorado hotels and near the large silver mine located in the casino rotunda of the Silver Legacy. A wristband will be provided for entrance into all tournament areas.

How do I complete vaccination verification through VOW?

VOW Digital Health provides an easy way to verify your vaccination in a few simple steps. Please view the video above to learn more.

I have a state- or country-approved vaccine passport on my phone. Can I use that to enter the tournament?

No. We are only accepting VOW Digital Health’s verification of your vaccination. Uploading your original vaccine record into VOW allows us to accurately verify your credentials, thus providing you clearance to enter the tournament areas. No QR codes will be accepted. Will there be staff members at the NABC to help me through the verification process if I can’t accomplish it on my own?

If you have questions about the process for verifying your vaccination status, please email CustomerSupport@vow.app to receive assistance or request to speak to a representative prior to your arrival.

What does “full vaccination” mean?

It means that by the date you attend the NABC, according to the CDC Guidelines, it must be:

  • at least 14 days after your second dose of an U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) or World Health Organization (WHO) approved two dose COVID-19 vaccine, or
  • at least 14 days after your single dose of an FDA or WHO approved single dose COVID-19 vaccine.

While booster shots are currently not required, they are highly recommended.

What COVID-19 vaccinations will be accepted?

We will accept valid proof of full vaccination with:

  • Any COVID-19 vaccine authorized for emergency use or approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration: Pfizer/BioNTech, Moderna, Johnson & Johnson/Jansen.
  • Any COVID-19 vaccine authorized for emergency use by the World Health Organization: AstraZeneca/Oxford, Sinopharm-BBIBP, Sinovac, Covishield.
  • Any active COVID-19 vaccine used during a U.S.-based clinical trial: Novavax
  • All other COVID-19 vaccines, including Sputnik V, Sputnik Light, Covaxin and Sinopharm-WIBP, are not acceptable.
  • We will also accept mixed COVID-19 vaccine schedules of WHO-authorized vaccines to establish full vaccination status.
What do I do if I begin to feel symptoms or test positive for COVID-19 while at the tournament?

If you begin to feel symptoms, protect other players, staff and volunteers by getting tested. We’ll provide a list of nearby COVID-19 testing locations closer to the event date. If you test positive, please email nabc@rebrandedacbl.acbl.org with your information and do not return to the tournament. Please follow the CDC’s guidelines and recommendations.

Will there be forced quarantining or contact tracing at the NABC?

Because all attendees will be vaccinated, the CDC does not require forced quarantine should you be in close contact with an individual who tests positive. However, we understand each individual has varying degrees of comfort. So, when ACBL is notified of a positive case, we will contact the players who played with that individual over the past 24 hours and provide information resources and CDC recommendations. If you do test positive for COVID-19, we ask that you email us at nabc@rebrandedacbl.acbl.org so that we may notify close contacts.
