Thapa team wins 10K Swiss
A team of Northern California players led by Mukund Thapa ran away with the NABC 0–10,000 Swiss Teams on Sunday, winning by almost a full match. Thapa played with Stephen Castellino, Mark McCarthy and Frank Xie.
They lost their first two matches on Saturday, then won the next six to qualify in third place with a carryover of 20.02 victory points. The streak continued Sunday with seven more wins interrupted in the sixth round with a single loss by just 1 IMP. So close to a perfect day! They finished with a score of 134.47, ahead of second place by 19.59 VPs.
In second was the team captained by Perry Van Hook of Surprise AZ. Van Hook played with Steve Cohen, Sidney Brownstein and Dan Parish.
It was the first limited NABC win for all four members of the Thapa team.
“It’s quite exciting,” said Castellino. “I think we played steadily. We did not do anything wild. We did not play beyond what the cards were offering.”
