Cavalier–Jolly grab Wernher crown
Andrew Cavalier and Christian Jolly each earned their first victory in an NABC contest by winning the Wernher Open Pairs on Thursday. Cavalier of Huntsville AL and Jolly of Atlanta GA qualified second in Wednesday’s opening round, and scored 60.29% in the first final session and 57.69% in the second to win the contest by a half board over runners-up Jian-Ping Chen of Yorktown VA and Jian Wang of Hopatcong NJ.
Cavalier and Jolly were part of the U.S. Junior squad a decade ago. The senior member of the partnership by four years, Cavalier mentored Jolly in their teen years.
Cavalier is now an air traffic controller, while Jolly is a digital advertiser.
