A commanding 66.70% performance in the second final session of the von Zedtwitz Life Master Pairs boosted Zia Mahmood and Ola Rimstedt into first place in the prestigious three-day contest.
This is the first North American title for Rimstedt, who lives in Sweden. In 2018, he won the World Open Pairs with brother Mikael. This is the 31st NABC title for Hall of Famer Zia of London UK, and his fourth in this event.
In second, a handful of matchpoints behind, were Alon Birman of Tel Aviv, Israel, and Augustin Madala of Buenos Aires, Argentina. They led the event after the first and second days of the contest.
Zia and Rimstedt finished 22nd in Friday’s qualifying round and were 15th after Saturday’s semifinal round. Their final-session scores of 57.40% and 66.70% pushed them just ahead of Birman and Madala.
