Father-son Ge duo wins Red Ribbon Pairs

Brandon Ge and father Xin Ge are the winners of the Bean Red Ribbon Pairs.

A strong second final session propelled Brandon Ge and father Xin Ge into first place in the Bean Red Ribbon Pairs. Brandon, 16, and Xin, of Cupertino CA, qualified 12th in Friday’s opening round, and posted 57.12% in the first final session and 63.96% in the second to win the two-day event by almost a full board.

In second place were Steve Overholt and Sudhir Patwardhan of the Toronto are. They won the Red Ribbon Pairs in 2017.

Brandon was slotted to represent the U.S. at the Junior World Championships in 2020 as part of the USA2 squad, but COVID canceled the event. The Ges won the 0–1500 Online Pairs Championship in 2021. Brandon has been a longtime member of the USBF Junior program. Xin is a computer tech executive.

Third placed went to Sean McNally of Chicago IL and Julia White of Minneapolis MN.
